World War III: Coronavirus vs. Humanity

Humanity just got a wake up call. For millennia, we’ve focused wars and conflict on each other. War evolved to become more stealthy with cyber warfare on the rise, but the enemy was still each other. State against state, group against group, race against race — since the dawn of time we have found ways to divide and protect ourselves.

Then the coronavirus quietly unleashed World War III on the globe. A stealthy killer with no political agenda, the virus paralyzed global economies, shut down borders, halted trade, and attacked over 1.9 million victims and savagely killed over 120,000. According the leading health statistics organization IHME, by August we can expect to exceed 188,000 casualties globally, with 320,000 deaths more likely and up to 653,000 deaths possible.

To put this in perspective, this compares to death tolls from several recent wars that took years to execute. The Mexican Drug War so far ended about 200,000 lives, and it started in 2006. The Iraq War took 190,000 lives during the period from 2003 to 2011. COVID-19 is on track to do this level of damage in less than 6 months. In fact, it’s so deadly, COVID-19 is now the leading cause of death for Americans.

Make no mistake, this is war.
